The Murdoch Community Garden assists with a variety of research including pilot projects, citizen science and funded research.
The Forever Flowering Garden project at Perth Children's Hospital creates year‑round, colourful native plant gardens outside eleven oncology room windows. These living views reconnect children and carers with nature, offering calm, positive distraction and cultural connection to Whadjuk Noongar Country. The gardens use rotating, seasonally appropriate native plants to ensure continuous flowering, movement, and pollinator activity.
The MCG provides essential support caring for plants off view from the windows, as well as installation. Their in‑kind contributions have already enabled successful pilot pop‑up gardens ensuring the gardens remain healthy, vibrant, and sustainable throughout the year.

Based on a bespoke database of 28 native plant photos and IDs, this online quiz re-opens for each National Science Week. It focuses on increasing awareness of Native plants and sustainable ecosystems in Western Australia for anyone aged 5 years or older. From beginnings in the Science classroom, to demonstrating increased accessibility links, the 2025 tournament and related activities are open to Primary, Secondary and Tertiary cohorts as well as the pediatric community through Perth Children’s Hospital and The Kids Research Institute Discovery Center.
The MCG was instrumental in construction of the first database in 2023 and continues to support the annual event.
